about

Inspired by a scene from the 1967 movie Bonnie & Clyde, when Faye Dunaway is running away from Warren Beatty in a field and crying that she wants to go home. What if, in real life, Bonnie just kept running? What if Bonnie left Clyde?

lyrics

The night is broken
The moon no longer shines
The wheels have spoken
To all we leave behind
Legend has it
That we can't be apart
But I know what's coming
And it's tearing up my heart
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
'bout your dreams
I don't want to hear
Don't want to hear
Your thrills and schemes
You'll be forever free and wild
When the ashes touch the sky
I can see the flames still burning in your eyes
I got these poems deep inside
I don't know if I'll survive
But I got this car
And I'm leaving here tonight
The road is calling
But the darkness holds me back
The night is longing
For all that we once had
I don't want to look
don't want to look
into your eyes
So I guess I'll see you there
See you on the
other side
You'll be forever free and wild
When the ashes touch the sky
I can see the flames still burning in your eyes
I got these poems deep inside
I don't know if I'll survive
But I got this car
And I'm leaving here tonight
I got this car
And I'm leaving here tonight
